A woman has died following a house fire in South Norwood

Firefighters pulled the woman from the house in Birchanger Road, but she was pronounced dead at the scene at 4pm.

Police, London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade were called to a home at about 3.15pm.

At this stage no arrests have been made and the her death is being treated as unexplained.

Two fire engines and 14 firefighters tackled the blaze that was under control by 4.10pm.

A Met spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 3.15pm on Tuesday, 10 January by London Fire Brigade to a report of fire at an address in Birchanger Road.

"Officers, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service attended the scene.

"A woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 16:00hrs. Next of kin have not been informed."

Enquiries are underway to establish the cause of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, a London Fire Brigade (LFB) spokesman has confirmed.

He said: "Two fire engines and 14 firefighters and officers were called to a house fire on Birchanger Road in South Norwood this afternoon.

"The fire damaged part of the ground floor and the staircase between the ground and first floors.

"Crews rescued a woman from the ground floor of the detached property but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Brigade was called at 3.01pm and the fire was under control at 4.10pm.

"Crews from Beckenham and West Norwood fire stations attended the incident."

Police are dealing with a seperate incident, which is ongoing in the nearby Davidson Road.
