A Thornton Heath nursery has been told it “requires improvement” following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

Loving Hands International Nursery School, in Leander Road, was handed the rating after the watchdog’s visit on December 6.

In the report, published on December 24, inspectors wrote that staff did not use grammatically correct language when talking to the children.

Staff missed opportunities for children to learn about healthy eating at lunchtimes and keeping active during playtime, the report adds.

Despite delivering a “Requires improvement” rating across all areas of its inspection, Ofsted said the nursery has action plans in place to respond to concerns.

The report added: “Changes to routines for children are supporting them to settle in the nursery well.

“Pre-school children develop their self-help skills at meal times by washing their own hands, serving their own food and pouring their own drinks.

"This is impacting positively on children's behaviour at meal times.”

The nursery was given a “Good” rating by Ofsted when inspectors last visited two years ago.

Last month’s inspection was carried out following concerns received by the school standards’ body.

Manager of the nursery Sandra Henry has been contacted for comment.
