Croydon Council is inviting the public to have their say on the proposed development of 500 homes on the site of its former offices.

Residents will have the opportunity to see the proposed designs and meet the development team and architects involved in the regeneration of the Park Lane site.

The meeting will be held at the Friends Meeting House, in Park Lane, on Thursday, January 19, between 6pm and 8.30pm.

A floor-by-floor demolition of the 19-storey Taberner House was completed early in 2015

Residential developer HUB was awarded the contract to regenerate the Taberner House and create a mixed-use development of housing and commercial units in July last year.

Before that, the council tore up a deal with long-term development partners John Laing that would have seen the company build on the site that housed Croydon Council's headquarters before the completion of nearby Bernard Weatherill House in 2014.

HUB’s proposals include building about 500 new apartments, of which at least 30 per cent will be affordable housing, the authority has said.

Queen’s Gardens will also be revitalised as part of the scheme.

Councillor Alison Butler, deputy leader and cabinet member for homes, regeneration and planning, said: “This site is really important for all of Croydon and now is the time for local people who live and work in the area to have their say on the proposals.

“I’d encourage everyone to attend and share their thoughts to help shape the ongoing redevelopment of this site.
