No new evidence was found during a fresh three-day search for missing library campaigner Robert Gibson, police have confirmed.

Officers from Hampshire Police this week searched a coastal path in the Isle of Wight that they were previously unable to wade through due to it being too overgrown.

The dad-of-one went missing from his home in Gipsy Hill in June.

Mr Gibson, who played a huge part in campaigning to save Upper Norwood Library, was last seen on CCTV in a Co-op store in Languard Road, Shanklin, on June 13.

Detective Sergeant John Stirling, from Newport CID, explained the coastal path they searched this week was too overgrown for search dogs in the summer.

Prior to the search on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Sergeant Stirling said: “Robert has been missing for a number of months now, and we are still keen to trace his steps.

“He was last seen in Co-op in Shanklin, and is known to enjoy coastal walks.

“We know that the coastal path near Luccombe Road is a particular route Robert has walked in the past during trips to the Isle of Wight.

“Officers have chosen to search the area now as it was too overgrown during the summer months when Robert was reported missing.”

Mr Gibson is described as white, 6ft, of slim build with grey/silver hair. He wears black rimmed Prada glasses.

He was last seen wearing a blue/grey T-shirt with green/brown khaki trousers.
