Two men, two modes of transport and one objective – to race from Crystal Palace in south London to King’s Cross in north London in the fastest time.

One of them was on a bike, the other was using Overground and Underground trains to get across the capital.

One of them took an hour to complete the journey, the other took 17 minutes longer.

Can you guess which competitor was quickest?

The answer, slightly surprisingly, is the cyclist.

While the race was only held by Currys PC World to promote the virtues of the GoPro Hero 5 camera, the result is still interesting for Londoners who might pride themselves on thinking they know the quickest way to get around town.

As well as the bike being speedier on this occasion, Currys PC World has also calculated cycling is the cheapest and healthiest way to travel.

It says the average cost of a new bike, plus accessories, and one year of servicing comes to around £750. But the cost of a Zone 1-3 Travelcard comes in at a £1,548.

During the race, Fin the cyclist is estimated to have burned 610 calories, while his mate Dan burned just a third of that while travelling on public transport.

Over a year that would equate to burning 215,800 more calories by cycling - the same number of calories as 424 Big Macs or 1,135 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
