The man believed to have killed three people and injured dozens in a terrorist attack outside Westminster has been named as Khalid Masood.

Masood, 52, was born in Kent and detectives believe he was most recently living in the West Midlands. He is known by a number of aliases.

He was not the subject of any current investigations and there was no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack.

Masood's first conviction was in November 1983 for criminal damage and his last conviction was in December 2003 for possession of a knife.

He has not been convicted for any terrorism offences.

Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the ‘sick and depraved’ attack and said any attempt to defeat the British values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law would be “doomed to failure”.

She added the threat level would remain at ‘severe’ meaning an attack is highly likely, but not imminent.
