You may have noticed something a little different as you travel past where the Cane Hill hospital used to be.

Over the last few years, what was a site for a “redundant” hospital has turned into a series of houses, with many more still to come.

In 2011, a master plan is being put together by the council working with residents, transport for London and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to bring new business and leisure developments to the town.

Now there are “approximately 135 households now living at Cane Hill Park” according to a spokesperson from Barratt Developments – the real estate agency in charge of the properties.

There’s still much more going on at the hill as by 2021, it is expected that all 677 residential units will be ready to go.

Included in that number is a single building that would cover 3,000m2, to be used as either an office or a hotel.

Re-use/rebuild of North Lodge as use for class C3 single dwelling house as well as the relocation of the farm and changing of the use of Glencairn from Use Class C2 to a Use Class C3 dwelling house.

The application for the discharge of temporary access track details attached to the planning provisions also included works for car and cycle parking provision and highway works that included a new access onto Marlpit Lane/Brighton Road roundabout and Portnalls Road.

Also outlined was the retention of the water tower and chapel and refurbishment and re-use of an administration building.

The building of three barns on the tennis court site was also noted in the application.
