Croydon Council has said the installation of sprinkler systems in tower blocks should be complete by the end of 2018.

Last month, the council said it intended to install sprinkler systems in all blocks of ten storeys and above, following the tragic Grenfell fire in Kensington.

It’s now expected that council would start the installation of the first systems in autumn this year with completion of all systems expected by end 2018.

On the agenda for a meeting of the tenants and leadership panel is a fire safety review by Kirsteen Roe, head of partnerships and engagement, which includes an update on the sprinkler situation.

In the presentation, Ms Roe states council “are prioritising the tallest of the 25 blocks first.”

“Consideration of further blocks will happen once these blocks have been completed.

“We believe that the government should be supporting local authority investment in fire safety and the leader of the council has written to the government to ask for a contribution.”

Assessments, costing and approach for installation of fire prevention measures have not yet started according to the report.

Inspections of cladded terrace properties are also planned to commence soon.
