In an attempt to save the Glamorgan pub from demolition, more than 40 people turned out to a meeting at Croydon Town Hall on Monday.

As a result of the meeting, an application will now be submitted on Wednesday, July 26, to list the Addiscombe pub an asset of community value (ACV).

With 21 signatures required for the ACV, the group went well past that number.

Councillor Sean Fitzsimon, who represents Addiscombe said: "last night we agreed to set up a group to make ACV application to save the glam.

"We have more than 21 names needed to make the application.

"I was very pleased with the community turnout."

If the ACV is approved, then the pub can not be demolished.

"Because it would remain as a pub and not be turned into flats, the property wouldn't be worth as much," Mr Fitzsimon said.

For more than 100 years the pub has stood on Cherry Orchard Road and Mr Fitzsimon believes it can return to its former glory.

"There’s a lot of residents who remember it as a successful local pub," he said.

"It has the potential to offer music food and drinking.

"It's also the site where the Croydon CAMRA branch was formed 41 years ago, so there's a fair bit of history attached to this pub.

"I think a lot of people are interested in saving it."

The pub isn't safe just yet.

If Croydon council adds The Glamorgan to its register of Assets of Community Value, the campaigners will have 18 months to raise the money required to buy the building.

"It was the first of many battles," Mr Fitzsimon said.
