A total of 13 war memorials across England have been listed or upgraded ahead of commemorations marking 100 years since the Battle of Passchendaele.

Among the list is the Croydon War Memorial on Katharine Street which was upgraded from Grade II to Grade II*.

The move was made by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport on the advice of government heritage body Historic England.

The upgrade to Grade II means the site is "particularly important, of more than special interest" as opposed to just "special interest" which the Grade II lisitng means.
