"If you ask where the hot spots are for queer events most people will say Camden, Dalston or Soho."

One Croydon resident is hoping to change all of that.

An LGBQT+ art event is set for later this month and event organiser Mandisa was excited to bring such a showcase to Croydon.

"It's frustrating because many places are expensive to travel to and on a night out, getting the night bus back home is not a motive," Mandisa said.

"So, when the guys from Brgr&Beer suggested curating an LGBTQ+ event at Matthews Yard I was immediately on board.

"I had an opportunity to create an event local to LGBTQ+ community down south, an event that is equally insightful as it is fun.

"Especially in these tough times, art and unification is power. Also, I cannot be bothered getting ten trains just to get the 250 from Brixton at 4am in the morning anymore."

There will performances and appearances by queer-identifying artists, including QTIPOC based cabaret collective 'The Cocoa Butter Club' as well as queer musician and performance artist, Tsinder Ash.

The event takes place on Saturday, August 26 and the ticket covers the cabaret and live music. £12 on the door on the night.
