The aftermath of the A Levels is looking good for Croydon schools.

With all but two schools having reported its A-level results, the average reported pass rate for Croydon (so far) is above the national average (97.9 per cent) at 98.3 per cent.

There were also some real success stories to come out of the day.

A quartet of students from Coloma Convent Girls’ School blitzed the field with A*s seemingly being handed out left right and centre.

Laura Shutler scored 3A*s and an A, following on from 11A*s at GCSE: she will be studying Medicine at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

Amber Obasi also achieved 3A*s and has a place at Newnham College to study Law; Elsa Withnell was awarded 3A*s and an A and will be studying General Engineering at Durham while Aisling Duignan-Murphy recorded 3A*s.

Students at John Fisher School were jumping for joy as they enjoyed a pass rate of 99 per cent.

Special mention goes out John De Zoysa who achieved 3 A* grades while Niall Jukes received 1 A*, 2 A’s.

Students at The Quest Academy in Selsdon achieved a 100 per cent pass rate for the 3rd year running.

Christianah Oyenekan - who was awarded a triple Distinction Star for Applied Science - was overjoyed by the day.

"I really wasn’t expecting this," he said.

"I want to thank all my teachers for supporting me to get the grades that I got. I’m speechless.”

Another notable standout was Aishwaree Mahadea who recorded four As in RE, sociology, mathematics and AS economics.

“Being at Quest has been a hugely beneficial maturing process, but the teachers have played a really important part," she said.

"They’ve given me opportunities, pushed me to achieve my goals and believed in me.”

Whitgift School was another delighted with its results. 86.4 per cent of all grades were awarded at A*-B.

In its fourth year Coulsdon College celebrated with a 99 per cent pass rate.

Top of the charts for the school was Bleu Samms and Oliver Barlin.

Bleu stormed home with three A* while Oliver notched an A* and two A's.

Croydon High School churned out a handful of top level performers.

For an excellent example of a girl who knows her own mind and aspirations, look no further than Alita Butcher-Wallis. As well as a successful debater and campaigner for human rights issues she scooped up three A* grades and an A* for her EPQ. Fariha Baba, who also ran the Model UN event for the whole school the day after her last exam was rewarded for all her efforts with two A* and two A grades and an A* EPQ.

Harris City Academy Crystal Palace students have also been celebrating after picking up their A level results. Over 30 per cent of students have gained places at Russell Group universities, compared to the national average of 11 per cent

Notable standouts were Andrew McNeill who achieved three A*s and will be reading Mathematics at University College London; Emily Blundell Owers, who achieved an A* and two As and will be reading English Literature at King’s College London and Holly Stanton, who achieved an A* and two As and will be reading Aeronautics and Astrophysics at the University of Southampton.

THose at Shirley High School deserve a pat on the back as well.

The school put together a terrific performance that included 83 per cent scoring A*-C at A level, 98 per cent getting bewtween Dist*-Merit at BTEC Level Three and a 100 per cent pass rate.

Students and staff at Woodcote High School were celebrating another year of excellent results with a 100 per cent pass rate and 43 per cent of grades at A*-B.
There were many outstanding individual results. For example, Jack Smith achieved 2 A* and 2 A grades which will enable him to pursue his passion for film making at University. Sarena Shah achieved three A grades and will now be going to university to study Architecture.
