After four months of arduous competition, it was finally confirmed which two teams would go on to represent Croydon in the Last Man Stands – London Championships.

Twelve teams from Croydon took part in the international competition and it was some familiar faces fighting it out come the final.

On August 15, defending champions Croydon Challengers played a hard fought semi-final against Croydon Blasters and were able to secure a spot in the grand final against the Croydon Knights. Knights captain Abi Mukherjee won the toss and decided to bat.

After an all-round batting performance by the team, the Knights were able to put together a total of 153. The Challengers fought hard and despite a 47 run knock from wicket-keeper Dhruvik Patel, it was the Knights who triumphed as the mid-week champions

The Knights weren’t the only success story to come out of the Croydon Championships though.

The weekend championship once again saw a defending champion reach the final in the ABM Knight Riders. They would face off against the Sialkot Warriors in what was a day filled with heavy rain.

After winning the toss, Warriors captain Imran Rasheed chose to bat first. A great bowling performance by Sajeel Ali and Saqlain Shabbir meant the Warriors were bowled out for 110 runs.

An undefeated 47 runs by Hafiz Waleed saw the Knight Riders over the finishing line for a six wicket victory, the side's third title in three years.

Last Man Stands umpire Omar Siddiqui was proud of what he witnessed over the four months of competition.

“I can’t tell people enough how much I love the league that is Last Man Stands," he said.

"The unique format that it brings, requires the players to remain focused literally every second of the game.

"What I love most is, the fact that Last Man Stands is a social league for every literally every player whatever their standard maybe from retired international players, right down to players who have never played before, also whatever their age may be, we have players as young as 16 right up to the age of 72.

I’d like to congratulate all the players who have played this year and wish Croydon Knights and ABM Knight Riders all the best as they go on to represent Croydon in the Last Man Stands – London Championships.”
