No longer will people with learning disabilities have to worry about enjoying a night on the town.
This is because a new scheme is being launched that will match volunteers to those with a learning disability or autism to go and attend gigs, plays or other live events.
Gig Buddies - which came after a successful Croydon Council funding bid - is being launched at Boxpark between 5pm and 7pm on September 5, with DJs from the long-established Club Soda team on the decks.
One person who will benefit from this scheme will be Dennis Ellis
“I love going out but it can be really difficult," he said.
"Having a gig buddy will really give me the confidence to be able to enjoy myself.”
One person who has already stuck their hand up to volunteer is Paul Barnard.
“Most people take going to gigs and shows for granted," he said.
"But for those with disabilities it can be a daunting experience if they have to go on their own.
"I got involved with this scheme because it means I can help someone do the things they love without fear.”
The evening is free, and everyone is welcome to attend.
