Joanna Wood was just three years old when she suffered a fit that left her unconscious for a month and ultimately brain damaged.

Over the next 16 years she would undergo more than 30 operations - many to the brain.

Then at the age of 19, Joanna got an infection, which turned to sepsis, which ultimately killed her.

Her brother John Wood said nothing ever fazed her and that "she was always smiling."

Now five years after seeing his little sister pass away, John has decided to make sure Joanna's memory lives on.

He and a group of three friends have decided to run the London Marathon, wearing Teletubbies suits to raise money for Croydon charity the Garwood Foundation.

"Joanna has been missed ever since she passed away, " he said.

"The Teletubbies were her favourite toy, so I thought it would be a nice way to remember her.

"So running the marathon is our way of giving something back to the people that helped so much."

The four men have already run a couple of half-marathon in preparation for the big day and are hosting a few events in the lead-up as they look to raise £8,000.

"We are hoping people in the Croydon area especially the local businesses will get behind us and hopefully we can raise the money required," John said.

"Our first event will be a pub quiz on December 16 at the Belmont Social Club."
