Another Croydon pub could soon be getting demolished.

But in a change of pace, a different pub would be built in its place.

A planning application has been submitted to demolish the Lord Napier in Thornton Heath and for the site to be redeveloped as a "smaller, community focused pub."

Architect company Tooley and Foster Partnership detailed how the site would be turned into a three and four-storey building, with retained pub use at ground and basement floors with seven new flats above.

"The existing pub is an old, relatively obsolete collection of buildings that is too big for the location, includes a large, virtually redundant music venue that attracts complaints from neighbours and therefore attracts high running maintenance costs," the architects company said.

"As a result it has not been viable for some time and has recently closed when the tenant left leaving rent arrears.

"The new building is a well-articulated, attractive and striking contemporary design that will be a positive addition to the street scene and reflect the aspirations of the area moving forward."

The plans were submitted on October 10 and it is currently awaiting decision.
