Christmas is coming early for Thornton Heath.

A new street market is launching in December that will bring with it an open-air ice rink for one day only.

Organised by the Thornton Heath Community Action Team (THCAT), the market will be running on a three month trial period, but donations are needed

A spokesman for THCAT said: "We are appealing to the community for donations to cover the cost of bringing the rink to Thornton Heath.

"The target is £2,100 and over half of this has been reached already (as of November 21).

"Donations of £10 or more will be allocated free two tickets for the ice rink."

The ice rink isn't the only attraction however.

"Kids get to meet Santa and his elves in The Barber Store on Thornton Heath High Street from 1pm – 4pm," the spokesman said.

"Experience a fully decorated grotto with a massive sleigh and wintery scene outside.

"Christmas children’s arts workshops will take place in the Salvation Army community centre."

The ice rink event is running only on Saturday, December 16 from 10am-4pm.

The market will run through the High Street and Brigstock Road while the ice rink will be situated in Garnet Road Car Park.

Tickets will be £5 for a 30 minute skate (including skate hire).
