A group of children and their families have been exploring life on Wimbledon Common.

The youngsters, part of Wimbledon Common Nature Club, were treated to a session on 'Life under the Microscope’ at a nature walk with a microscope expert.

Supported by the London Wildlife Trust, the children and their families collected things of interest to study under the microscope at the Information Centre at Wimbledon Common on January 7.

Led by Dennis Fullwood of the Queckett Microscopical Club, the children collected ants, snails, moss and leaf litter.

Mr Fullwood also brought along Baltic amber with insects trapped in the tree, millions of years ago and a piece of meteorite.

Auriel Glanville, Club Leader said: “Everyone had a fascinating morning collecting things to examine under the microscopes with many thanks to Dennis Fullwood of the Queckett Microscopical Club, who provided all the microscopes and his expertise.”
