Croydon is quickly becoming a 20mph only area as the south-east corner of the borough is the latest to adopt the road changes.
As of today (January 15), the new speed limit will apply all streets in New Addington, Sanderstead, Selsdon, South Croydon (east of Brighton Road), Shirley, Addington and Forestdale.
There are a couple of exceptions however.
Private roads, Transport for London red routes and several Croydon A-roads that will remain at 30mph are all exempt from the change.
The roads remaining at 30mph under the most recent change include Selsdon Park Road, Kent Gate Way, King Henry’s Drive, Addiscombe Road and Featherbed Lane.
Councillor Stuart King hoped this change would make Croydon roads safer.
“This new 20mph speed limit is better for road safety in our local residential areas, as, when speeds reduce, the risk of being injured in a collision falls as well, so I’m delighted to be delivering on this important council commitment,” he said.
Now there is just one area (the south-west) left in Croydon still waiting to adopt the new 20mph speed limit.
This change is due to go ahead in March.
