"O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree, such pleasure do you bring me."

But those lyrics don't hold true for all apparently.

Nearly 20 Christmas trees were found dumped in West Norwood yesterday (January 22), blocking the pavement for pedestrians.

People were quick to notice the pile of trees on the corner of Auckland Hill and St Louis Road.

Carmen Faria said it was a shame that people don't take pride in their streets.

"They appeared there between 4pm and 5.30pm," she said

"The trees were blocking walking access and then spilled into the road.

"There is so much of it around here, it’s really bad."

Alerted to the pile of unwanted Christmas trees, Lambeth Council cabinet member for environment and housing said something needed to be done to stop fly-tipping in the area.

"Fly-tipping is a blight and we are determined to tackle it," she said.

"We will work with the police and the college to investigate who has dumped this commercial batch of trees and take enforcement action.

“Fly-tipping not only ruins the environment and angers residents, it costs the council a fortune to deal with.

"We have officers out on the street confronting offenders and have brought in mobile CCTV cameras to catch people in the act.”
