The Met Police have paid a touching tribute to a former South Norwood officer 24 years after he was murdered.
PS Derek John Carnie Robertson had been an officer since 1973 and had been posted to South Norwood for three years.
Alerted by the wife of the postmaster at New Addington Post Office, PS Robertson and other officers responded.
PS Robertson went to the side of the post office where he saw three men escaping.
He tackled them and was stabbed in the ensuing struggle. Despite the best efforts of the HEMS crew that attended, PS Robertson died on February 9, 1994.
Sentencing Judge HHJ Auld described the attack as "wanton and savage".
PS Robertson's murderer, Robert Eades was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 25 years.
PS Robertson was married with two young children.
"We will never forget."
