Remember Scrapheap Challenge on Channel 4? It's being brought back as an event and you can get paid for being among the first to take part.

You and some friends could be paid £300 to be the first contestants for the new version of the hit show, competing to build a working machine out of scrap.

The show became popular in 1998 and went on for more than 10 years inspiring a generation of inventors.

Corporate hospitality Team Tactics is bringing the show back in its new form, taking inspiration from Elon Musk’s attempts to conquer space travel by looking for two teams of three people to create a rocket that can reach 1,000 feet into the air.

Contestants will have five hours to complete the challenge and will be paid £60 an hour to use whatever scrap they can find.

Tina Benson, managing director at Team Tactics, said: “Scrapheap Challenge still has a cult following around the world and we’re excited to bring it back to life.

"It’s a show that celebrated innovation and technically minded people, and relied heavily on teams working well together, which is why we want to bring it back.

“The success of our other nostalgia-led experiences, such as Robot Wars, means Scrapheap Challenge will be in good company. We can’t wait to see how the trial goes and to create a new generation of fans when we launch.”

Teams can apply to take part through the Team Tactics website here.

Applicants will need to provide a team name, the names of each member, occupations, qualifications, who the captain will be and why they’re fans of the show.

The company has also hired lookalikes to be fans favourites, Robert Llewellyn and Lisa Rogers, who will judge and host the teams throughout the day.

Contestants, who must be willing to travel to London in March, will be asked for their feedback on completion of the challenge.
