A Sutton couple has reached an incredible milestone after celebrating their platinum wedding anniversary following 70 years of marriage.

Frank and Joyce Punter, of Christchurch Park, commemorated their time together with family and friends at a restaurant on March 6.

Parents of five children, the 91-year-olds have also been sent an official card by the Queen.

Son Keith Punter, 57, said: “It’s a great achievement. I didn’t realise at the time, but my older brother put together a piece and he hadn’t found many others who had reached that milestone. I then realised that it was pretty special.

“They have had five children, so we’ve grown up in a large family, and there are other family [members] around in Sutton.

“Like my dad’s parents spent a lot of time in this borough and his sister still lives in the borough.

“So it’s quite a long-living family on the whole, especially on my father’s side.”

Mr and Mrs Punter met in their teens at a school in Hinchley Wood during the Second World War with Frank working as a concierge in various London hotels.

It was after Keith’s grandfather purchased a hotel in Torquay, after living in Carshalton, that he got into the trade.

Joyce worked previously as a secretary but decided to bring up her four sons and daughter – Alan, Ian, Keith, Nigel, and Claire.

They have six grandchildren and a great grandchild.
