Any fears that the New Addington Festival would not be going ahead this year have been quickly squashed.

First held in the 1950s, the festival has been a staple of the town ever since.

In 2006 the show was forced to stop for "various" reasons, but was quickly brought back to life in 2011.

Now, despite some funding concerns, director and vice chairman of the New Addington Carnival Paul Wellecomme has assured people that it will once again be going ahead this year.

"Our biggest worry as always is funding," he said.

"We still have a lot to pay out by the weekend, but we will make it happen, as always we ask for help with donations and fundraising to continue in years to come."

So with the festival good to go, what can people expect?

"The Saturday we have a number of bands playing live on stage throughout the day, along with our various competitions to include a pet show, prince and princess, king and queen, fancy dress and the very busy talent show.

"On the Sunday we have a couple of large acts booked already to include a stunt show and strong man act, along with the procession through the streets.

"There will be a fair for both days, along with numerous stalls ranging from community outreach and information, business, food and alcohol outlets."

There is also a raffle already running with more than 25 prizes so far. Tickets for the raffle are on sale Tuesdays and Fridays outside the Octagon Building, Central Parade.
