A mother is concerned for the health of her daughter after a mouse and droppings were spotted in a Waddon school's classroom.

Sandra Parkinson said she was "very upset" at Aerodrome Primary School after her daughter, who is year 2, came home and told her what had happeend.

"If it was in my house, I would have to leave for a couple days while the problem was fixed," she said.

"They have to eat there.

"I am very concerned for my child."

After contacting the school, the Croydon Guardian received a letter from Zoe Foulsham, the school's head teacher, which she said was sent out to parents today (March 29).

The letter indicates that the school has been dealing with the mouse issue for almost a year now.

"Here at Aerodrome Primary we have an open door policy at all times and parents are welcome to come in and raise any concerns they may have," the letter said.

"It would be more beneficial to any concerned parent to speak directly to the school and not have a response printed in a local newspaper.

"I refer to our newsletter dated April 24, 2017 in which I made parents aware that the school were working on the problem, supported by the Croydon Environmental Health department. In accordance with all legislation this has all been documented."

The letter says that the mouse issue has been a persistent problem ever since.

"The problem has reduced and then for no apparent reason increased in activity and we have responded immediately in every case," it said.

"Please be assured that the children are not at risk and that their health and safety is always our priority.

"During the school holiday we are having an intensive treatment carried out whilst children are not at school."

The letter also says this treatment was prearranged, and not in response to being contacted by the newspaper.
