A football tournament is being held in Bromley to help better the relationship between young people and police officers.

The match will be on Sunday (April 29) at The Warren on Croydon Road.

Around 100 youngsters from Croydon, Bromley and Lewisham are expected to play in the KickOff@3 tournament.

Winning teams will then take part in the London finals this summer.

Chief Superintendent, Dave Stringer, head of community engagement, said: "The Met is delighted to support the Kickoff@3 event this year.

“This is a fantastic community-led initiative which aims to bring young people together in a safe and sporting environment and help them apply the lessons of sporting success to develop their lives with purpose."

The scheme started in 2017 – with over 600 teenagers aged between 15-19 helping to raise £600 for the African and Caribbean Leukaemia Trust.

Ashley Levien, of KickOff@3, said: "It is a powerful initiative that brings young people from all walks of life together and gets them involved in something positive whilst engaging with and breaking down barriers between their local police forces and those in a position of authority, which I believe makes us quite unique, especially in today's climate.”

Before the start of the upcoming tournament in Bromley – there will be a minutes silence in remembrance of young lives who have died from knife crime.

A met statement added: “It is hoped the relationships formed between the youngsters and the police will strengthen and continue beyond the duration of the tournaments.”
