A Croydon couple weren't happy with the quality of pet food on the market so they have decided to do something about it.

For the past two years, Jack and Aneisha Walker from in Addiscombe have been developing their own brand of pet food recipes.

Now Mr Walker has quit his job as the pair are ready to bring Scrumbles to life.

"It's our little baby really," he told the Croydon Guardian.

"We were frustrated with the food that was out there.

"What we have seen is if it is affordable then it is pretty poor quality, but if you want good food you have to pay a fortune for it."

But it's their own pets - a dog called Smudge and a cat called Boo - that are the real inspiration behind it all.

"They are both the head of the taste panels," Mr Walker said.

"We offer the food to them to try, but it can be a double-edged sword.

"Smudge is so fussy so we know pretty quickly if it's any good.

"But if she does like it then we pass it on to family and friends to try."

But what will make their food rise above the rest?

Well Mr Walker said it is all about the ingredients.

"We focus on making simple, wholesome food using high quality ingredients full of flavour and minus the nasties," he said.

"Our food is gluten free, naturally hypoallergenic and carefully tailored to species, life stage and breed size.

"We are also great believers in the power of business to do good and so are committed that Scrumbles will work with charities and good causes to ensure we have a positive impact on the planet."

Scrumbles can be delivered to your door but will also be available to buy in pet store Dabners, in Surrey Street.

The website https://scrumbles.co.uk will go live tomorrow (May 10) when the brand is officially launched.
