A cyclist is currently fighting for his life after being knocked down in a hit-and-run early Saturday morning.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a car failed to stop following the crash in Whitehorse Road at the junction with Northbrook Road.

Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service at 6.19am to reports of a crash between a car and a cyclist.

The 60-year-old victim was taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Detectives have established that the collision occurred just six minutes before police were called.

The car – which was a dark coloured BMW – did not stop at the scene.

Officers are appealing for the driver of the BMW to come forward. They are also asking any witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford on 020 8285 1574.

There has been no arrest at this stage.
