Plans for a golf club to build a new clubhouse on green belt land have been given the go ahead by the Mayor of London.
Addington Golf club in Shirley Church Road and wants a club house which is bigger than its existing one.
The proposal was referred to the office of Sadiq Khan as it is in the green belt.
A previous application by the golf club was refused in 2016 with the council ruling it would harm the open character of the area.
The applicant Altonwood Group states it would keep the current 76 parking places as well as providing an additional three blue badge parking spaces.
A report from the Greater London Authority (GLA) states: “Whilst the proposed building would be materially larger than the existing one, the compact layout, in conjunction with the secured landscaping measures, would avoid additional harm to green belt and would preserve openness.
“On this basis and that the proposal is a provision for appropriate facilities for outdoor sport, the scheme is acceptable.”
This means the GLA has passed back the application for a final decision to be made by Croydon Council.
