If encouraging your kids to fight sounds a little weird, then you obviously haven't met the Baines family.

From the age of four, Forestdale sisters Shannon and Keira have been preparing themselves for whatever battle comes next.

Now 16 and 11 respectively, the pair are ready to represent their country at the kickboxing world championships later this year.

Their mum Leanne couldn't be prouder.

"They have come so far in their training and confidence with competitions," she said.

"It's been such a fast process and they have a massive accumulation of medals and trophies to show for their hard work."

Inspired by their aunt, who holds a black belt in both karate and kickboxing, Leanne says the pair are doing everything they can to be the best.

"It's been a tough and amazing journey they both dedicate so much time to the sport training five times per week plus spending Sunday's travelling for competitions or squad training," she said.

"There have been times at first when they lost fights and things didn't go their way.

"But the week after they would be back on the mat, fighting again.

"They train at Absolute Martial Arts and also they have played the part in getting the girls where they are today!

Even when they're winning (which they have done a lot of recently), it isn't always easy going.

"Unfortunately there is no funding available so the costs land back on us to get them out there to fight and hopefully come back as world champions," Leanne said.

That is why she set up a GoFundMe page to help keep the dream of her kid's alive and allow them to go to the championships and hopefully bring back the gold.
