Croydon's first wok and roll star was named last week.

Myoi Cao, from Vietnamese restaurant An Nam, beat five other finalists at the council's first oriental chef of the year competition.

Bing Lai He from Oriental Express in George Street came second and Ping Kong Chung, from Miso in George Street, third.

The competitors were asked to prepare a selection of dishes which were judged on skill, creativity, originality and good hygiene.

Myoi's Malaysian-style omelette with king prawn and bean sprouts, red snapper with green mango sauce landed her the title and free flights to Hong Kong for two people.

Deputy leader of the council Steve O'Connell, said: "The standard of entries was extremely high which just goes to show that Croydon is up there with the best in London for its fantastic oriental cuisine."
