Mayday Hospital staff may hold the key to a gunshot murder in Thornton Heath on Tuesday.

Staff coming off shift may have seen the man who gunned down 25-year-old Shawn Freckleton as he walked down Frant Road at 2pm on April 9.

Mr Freckleton had got out of his car, a dark J-reg Toyota, and walked down the road from the Bencham Road end before being shot outside number 76.

Leading the investigation is DCI Duncan Wilson of Operation Trident, which investigates black-on-black gun crime.

He said: "It is possible his killer was observing him as he walked down the road. He might have been observing him from a car parked in the road, or concealing himself in a doorway of one of the houses in the road.

"Although this is a quiet area, Frant Street is used by staff at nearby Mayday Hospital. As it was 2 o'clock, it is possible people were coming or going on shift around this time. They could have been in cars or on foot. We are asking people to think back to whether they saw anything of the incident or if they saw anyone hanging around in the area."

Mr Freckleton was taken to Mayday Hospital but later died of his injuries. Police are keeping an open mind as to why he was murdered.

They are keen to speak to a black man in his mid 20s who was wearing a white baseball cap, black jacket, dark trousers and white trainers with a red flash. He was carrying a green or white carrier bag and was seen in the road at the time of the shooting.
