Workers in Croydon could get a chance to shine at the workplace as National Learning Day gives them an opportunity to try something new and different.

On Thursday, May 16, workplaces across the country are taking part in the scheme in a bid to make employees feel more valued and give employers the chance to see the potential at their fingertips.

Lifelong learning charity Campaign for Learning, who organise the annual event, which is now in its fourth year, hope the day will prove even more popular than last year, when about 500,000 workers and 2,500 employers took part.

As part of last year's National Learning Day, Croydon Council gave employees the chance to try a range of fun skills at Taberner House including juggling, yoga and French lessons.

Rachel Johnstone, Campaign for Learning's regional executive, said: "It is all about getting people to take time out to think about the difference learning can make."

A recent survey by the Department for Education and Skills revealed workers are often frustrated by the lack of opportunity to try something new at work.

It reported that nine out of ten believe their bosses would benefit from giving them the chance to see what they can offer before recruiting newcomers to the business.

Anyone interested in taking part in the event can get a free planning guide, job swap guidelines and posters by calling 0117 966 7755.
