Shoppers in Croydon's North End could have been forgiven for thinking Halloween had come early after a parade by protestors dressed in creepy costumes.

The small group of around six protesters, tailed by two police officers, handed out leaflets for the Croydon Retired Peoples' Campaign (CRPC) at 12.30 this afternoon.

The CRPC is calling on the Government to raise the rate of the basic state pension arguing that the current amount leaves many pensioners in poverty.

The group meets at 11am on the first Monday of every month - except bank holidays - at Ruskin House, Coombe Road.
