PUPILS at a Sydenham primary school had their horizons broadened during a visit by Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon.
He brought a poster for every pupil when he visited St Michael's School, which featured the flag of every Commonwealth country.
New Zealander Mr McKinnon, who spends a month in a different one of the 54 countries, visited the school in Champion Crescent to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee and the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
He talked to the 180 pupils, aged between seven and 11, about all the different countries, their sizes, needs, and how they support each other.
Headteacher Tabitha White said afterwards: "All the children really enjoyed it. Because they come from a variety of backgrounds, it was of great use for them to find out about each other. It was fascinating for the pupils to meet Mr McKinnon, and before he left he commented on the lovely positive attitude of the children".
