An inquest to determine how a railway safety worker and father-of-three, was killed by two trains outside Purley Oaks Station last summer, opened in Croydon this week.
Nurani Adedoyin Kassim, 36, of Cosedge Crescent, Waddon, died on the railway tracks on Wednesday, July 18, 2002, while carrying out safety checks for corner gauge cracking, following the Hatfield rail disaster.
At Croydon Coroner's Court on Monday, June 24, his wife Sade, gave evidence detailing her husband's working hours and health before his death. While Mr Kassim was working a 70 hour week, and had only had one day's holiday in the last 47 days, his hours met with regulations.
Mr Kassim's colleague and site controller Mr Nigel Hancock recounted what happened on July 18, 2001, when one of the technicians drew his attention to Mr Kassim's position on the tracks.
