AFC Wimbledon have been rocked by the news that four players have been sidelined through injury during the hectic Christmas period.

The Dons continued their impressive form on New Year's Day with a 3-2 home win over second-placed Hendon, thanks to goals from Jon Main, Anthony Finn and Mark De Bolla.

That followed a 5-2 win at promotion rivals Staines Town on Saturday.

But playing four games in 10 days has taken its toll on Terry Brown's squad, with Marcus Gayle, Jon Main (both thigh), Karl Beckford (hamstring) and Luke Garrard (knee) all expected to miss Saturday's clash at Maidstone United.

And Brown has called on his replacements to stand up and be counted in the light of his side's growing injury list.

He said: "We have shown great character over the Christmas period and we have to keep that going.

"It is not only the injuries that have affected us because we have also had a flu bug sweep through the squad over the past couple of weeks.

"This is the time for all our squad to step up to the plate because we are missing some major players through injury. To be fair to them, so far they have done that."

After accumulating 10 points from a possible 12, the Dons have moved up to third in the Ryman Premier Division.

"It was a massive period for the club, if we hadn't have had a good Christmas then we would have been out of the title running," said Brown.

"The victory over Hendon was a big psychological boost for us because although we didn't look fluent, we are now taking chances that we weren't taking earlier in the season."
