Mayoral hopeful Brian Paddick says he supports extending the tram to Sutton.
The Lib Dem candidate for London Mayor has backed the Tram It! campaign which wants Croydon Tramlink extended to serve Sutton.
The 49-year-old, who launched his campaign for London Mayor today, said: "Running the tram to Sutton would show there is an alternative to Mr Livingstone's inner-city focused transport policy. The suburbs need better public transport too."
The former deputy assistant commissioner for the Met pledged to cut the capital's crime levels by 20 per cent during his first term or step down.
"I will make tackling crime in the capital a priority. I will cut crime in London by five per cent every year over the course of my first term in City Hall. And I will take personal control of ensuring this target is met by chairing the Metropolitan Police Authority. If I fail to reach my target after four years, I will not stand again," he said.
Mr Paddick was born in Balham and attended Sutton Manor High School.
