Crystal Palace star Ben Watson wants the club to sign fellow midfielder Shaun Derry on a permanent deal.
On-loan Derry is due to play his final game for Palace against Bristol City on Saturday before returning to Leeds United on Monday.
Derry's SE25 return has coincided with the club's charge up the table and it is understood that Warnock is eager to secure Derry's services on a long-term basis.
And now Watson has insisted keeping hold of the battling midfielder is a must.
"If he does go back to Leeds, we will really miss him, said Watson.
"He has been fantastic since he's been here, he is horrible to play against.
"He keeps things simple, he breaks up play and in my view he is the best at doing that in the Championship.
"Touch wood, we can sign him on a permanent basis."
