Hastings United 2 Staines Town 0
Staines Town slipped to sixth in the Ryman Premier League after a 2-0 defeat at struggling Hastings United on Saturday.
After a run of six games without a win, Hastings were fired up the the appointment of Tony Dolby and were helped by the fact Staines target man Mark Nwokeji was injured in the warm-up.
The first half was poor as neither side made much headway on a treacherous surface.
The best moment of the half came in the final minute when Staines keeper Shaun Allaway made a diving save to keep out Russell Eldridge's diving header.
Hastings took the lead a minute after the restart with Ade Olorunda's low shot into the net from an angle.
Staines were livelier after that with Gareth Risbridger's shot blocked and Howard Newton's follow-up going inches wide.
Then Risbridger's powerful drive was deflected into the keeper's hands.
At the other end, Allaway made a superb save to deny Olorunda at close range.
Staines brought on midfielder Kerem Bashkal, 23, who spent six years at Crystal Palace before joining Waltham Forest, as a late sub.
Hastings' victory was sealed with a breakaway goal in the 89th minute, with Marcel Nugent being hurried into a back pass and sub Danny Leach taking advantage to make it 2-0.
