BROOMWADE Tennis Club held their finals day on September 7 in Hughenden Park. The Ladies' Singles title went to Phillipa Lance, the other finalist being her daughter Zoe. They later teamed up to win the Ladies' Doubles title, winning against Helen Burne and Anna Welch. The Men's Singles was won by Marcus Garman in an excellent three set match against Alan Worley. Marcus and Pete Eldridge won the Men's Doubles against Jim Lewis and Richard Worley. Phillipa Lance rounded up the afternoon by winning the Mixed Doubles with Richard Worley, against her other daughter Amy, partnered by Marcus Garman.

TALK for the Allotments and Gardens Association is called Definitely Bulgaria and will be given by John Cornwall next Friday, September 27 at 8pm in the Village Hall. All will be welcome. Trading store opens from 9.30am to 11am on Sundays and is now well stocked with bulbs for autumn planting.

RICHARD Martin will continue business at Coombe Lane Stores, the only village shop, until a new purchaser emerges. There is now a glimmer of hope that the shop will survive.

MONDAY and Jo Dolomore will lead on Farm Buildings in the Landscape at Hughenden Art Group's meeting.

A reminder that the children's Bright Starz Disco is tonight at the Village Hall from 6pm to 7.30pm for children of school years Two to Six. Entry is £3. The disco will be well supervised. Any profit will go to the Village Hall funds.

GOOD COMPANIONS held their AGM at the September meeting. A steady growth in membership was reported and a healthy state of the finances. All the officers and committee members were re-elected, save that Stan Cole has taken over from Reg Ingram, whose efforts over the years were congratulated by the members. A bouquet was presented to Pam Herman in appreciation of all she had done as club secretary.
