Schoolchildren replenished the Wandle River's fish stocks this week in a bid to repair the damage done by the poisoning last September.
Pupils from Old Palace School, Croydon, and Bond School, Mitcham, released trout into the river at Morden Hall Park on Wednesday as part of the Trout in the Classroom project.
Trout in the Classroom, in which children tend the infant fish before releasing them, was set up in 2001 and about 20 fish tanks were placed in schools all over the Wandle Valley.
Some species of fish were completely wiped out after a chemical spill from a sewage treatment site last year. Thames Water admitted responsibility for the tragedy and vowed to pay whatever sum of money necessary to get the river back to its pre-pollution condition, including state-of-the-art pollution monitoring equipment.
