Two teens who killed a man during a row over a half eaten chocolate bar have each been sentenced to four years' detention.

Patrick Rowe, 17, from Tottenham and Dejon Thompson, 16, from Croydon, were sentenced at the Old Bailey today for the manslaughter of Evren Anil last year.

The 23-year-old was threatened with a knife and punched after confronting one of the teens who threw a half eaten Lion bar through his sister Elif's car window in Central Hill, Upper Norwood.

Evren fell backwards hitting his head on the pavement after he was punched on August 5 last year. He died eight days later.

The former Harris and Coulsdon College student had graduated from Kingston University last summer with a first-class degree in computer sciences and had landed his dream job with IT firm Logica.

In a statement read to the Old Bailey at last month's hearing Evren's sister paid tribute to her brother.

Elif said: "I love my brother Evren and always miss him. I will forever have a broken heart and remember August 5 until the day I die.

"My mum still to this day goes into his bedroom expecting to find him there and still expects him to walk through the door. These are wishes. But they are wishes we have to wish because of two heartless people."

Elif described Evren as "the best person you could ever hope to meet" and said her younger brother was a generous, caring individual.

She added: "He was a fantastic son, uncle and friend. I was blessed to have a brother like him."

Detective Inspector Justin Davies, who investigated Evren's killing, said: "Evren Anil was a decent, hard-working, public-spirited and well-loved young man with a bright future ahead of him.

"He decided on the day in question to challenge a random and pointless act of antisocial behaviour. That decision, tragically, cost him his life.

"No sentence can bring Evren back, or make up for the pain his family have had to endure since that day, but I hope today's result brings some form of closure for them.

"I would like to thank the family for their support throughout the police investigation, and also those witnesses who came forward to assist us in bringing to justice those responsible for Evren's death."
