Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters tackled a warehouse fire in South Wimbledon that was producing heavy smoke.

The Brigade received 12 calls about the blaze, with the first coming in at 2.55pm on May 4.

The crews tackled the fire at Lombard Road, where part of the ground floor and exterior of the warehouse was damaged by the fire.

London Ambulance Service treated two people at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The fire brigade advised that people kept their windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke.

The fire crews used a drone to see the incident from above and also used a 32-meer turntable ladder to help tackle the blaze.

It was brought under control more than four hours later at 7.31pm.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters tackled a fire at a warehouse on Lombard Road in South Wimbledon.

“A small part of the ground floor and exterior of the warehouse was damaged by the fire. Two people suffering from smoke inhalation were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews .

“Station Commander Tom Conlon, who was at the scene, said: "The fire was producing heavy smoke in the local area. People were advised to keep their windows and doors closed and to avoid the area."

“The Brigade's drone team assisted by providing an aerial view of the incident.

“Two 32-metre turntable ladders were used to help extinguish the fire.

“The Brigade's 999 Control Officers received 12 calls about the fire.

“The Brigade was called at 2.55pm and the fire was under control at 7.31pm. Crews from Wimbledon, Mitcham, New Malden, Sutton, Kingston, West Norwood and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
