You may not know that world-famous supermodel Kate Moss was born and raised in Croydon.

Before shooting to stardom, she lived in Addiscombe and Sanderstead parts of the Croydon borough with her younger brother Nick and half-sister Little.

She went to Ridgeway Primary School and Riddlesdown High School (which is now known as Riddlesdown Collegiate).

Her primary school is based on Southcote Road in south Croydon where headteachers have said they “strive to fulfil an ethos of nurturing every child for lifelong success” – an ethos that clearly worked out for Kate Moss.

Riddlesdown Collegiate is a co-educational school with around 2,000 pupils.

Headteacher at this school describes the school as “a school with ambition, improvement and people at its heart.

“We are a very large, successful and popular school with a rich and respected history.

“At Riddlesdown, we use our traditional values in the modern world and are proud of our diverse and inclusive school.”

Kate was recruited as a model in 1988 when she was 14-years-old by a scout at JFK airport in America after a holiday in The Bahamas.

One of her first big successes was being featured in the “Levi’s for Girls” campaign,

She went on to become to “anti-supermodel” of the 1990s as she was very different from other models of the moment.

Throughout her career, she has worked with countless iconic brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Versace, Balenciaga, Burberry, Gucci, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen and more.

She has been on the cover of British Vogue 30 times and has also been in Vanity Fair, Bazaar, the Face and others.

However, in 2005 she did experience drug allegations after photos were published of Kate allegedly using cocaine.

She was dropped from a line of H&M clothes designed by Stella McCartney as a result.

But, it didn’t stop her from becoming more and more successful, launching fragrances, winning awards and even designing her own clothes.
