A disabled Streatham woman said she is "deeply worried" about council house privatisation after being told her home's repairs would be delayed.

London's largest Arms Length Management Organisation (Almo), Lambeth Living, was launched by Lambeth Council on June 30, amid promises of improved services for tenants.

But within hours of taking control of 34,000 Lambeth council houses, Abercairn Road resident Pat Latifi says the Almo told her the redecoration of two rooms in her flat she was promised by the council would not be possible this year because of a maintenance backlog.

"Its not a good omen as far as I'm concerned," she said "I thought services were meant to improve."

A Lambeth Living spokeswoman said there was a misunderstanding and Mrs Latifi's work would be carried out as planned.

She added: "We are committed to providing a good value for money service and one of our key objectives is to drive up standards for tenants and leaseholders. We are confident that over the coming weeks and months tenants will see a marked improvement in services and we'll be working closely with tenant representatives to ensure that this happens."
