A community sauna has launched a pop-up event in King's Cross to raise money for a local garden.

Hackney-based Community Sauna Baths CIC has partnered with educational charity Global Generation for a pop-up sauna fundraiser near the British Library.

The event, which started on Friday, February 16 and will continue over this weekend, will support the planting of edible trees and shrubs at Global Generation's garden at its new Triangle Site in King's Cross.

In 2018, the Story Garden was created on a previously unused car park, bringing the community together for activities like food growing, carpentry, and creative writing.

Martina Mina, joint director of Global Generation, said: "For the first time we will be able to put down roots and grow deeper with our educational and community work."

Charlie Duckworth, director of the Community Sauna CIC, added: "Working with Global Generation on this fundraiser was a no-brainer for us, because our missions are very similar: to create community and foster wellbeing.

"We’re extremely excited to host this pop-up in King’s Cross, which we hope will allow people to support the garden while getting a good sweat."

Fundraising sessions will be held on Saturday, February 24, Sunday, February 25, Monday, February 26 and Tuesday, February 27, and can be booked on the Community Sauna website.

It will be the second time the Community Sauna Baths CIC has joined forces with a community garden for a fundraiser.

The sauna hosted a pop-up event in Glengall Wharf Garden in Burgess Park last year - which eventually led to a semi-permanent outpost there.

The cost for a 60-minute sauna session during this event will be £10 for waged individuals and £6 for those who are unwaged.

Those who need further concessions can email the Community Sauna at info@community-sauna.co.uk for more information.

An extra donation of £5 can also be made at at the end of the sauna.
