A robber used a knife to threaten a man who was showing him around his flat and then locked him inside the property.

The incident happened in London Road, Ashford at about 8pm on July 1 after the victim, a 30-year-old man, met the potential tenant at Hounslow West station, after advertising his flat to rent on the internet.

After driving the man to his property he asked to see the victim’s mobile phone and then tried to leave with it.

When the victim refused, the man produced a flick knife and demanded money and the keys to the property. He then left and locked the victim inside the flat.

Surrey Police has now released an image of the suspect.

He is described as a light-skinned black man, with an African accent, about 5ft 7in tall and in his mid to late 30s. He was of medium build with short black hair and was wearing a blue checked short-sleeved shirt and dark trousers. He gave his name as “Rozack”.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Nick Beer, said: “While this type of incident is rare it was particular frightening for the victim who had met with this man in good faith.

“We would remind people to be cautious when making arrangements to meet someone for the first time, always take down their contact details beforehand, and if possible, do not go unaccompanied.

“Please look closely at this E-fit and if you think you recognise this individual then come forward and speak to police.”
