A teenager has appeared in court accused of murdering a teenage semi-professional footballer from Croydon.

Oliver Kingonzila, 19, was found with stab wounds outside the E Bar in Croydon, south London, on Saturday morning and died shortly afterwards.

Triston Burke, 18, of Stanton Road, Croydon, appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with Mr Kingonzila's murder.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey in December.

A second 18-year-old who had been arrested was released by police on bail pending further inquiries.

Paying tribute to the former Archbishop Lanfranc pupil his football club’s manager described him earlier this week as "a gentle giant".

Speaking on the club’s website, Barnet manager Paul Fairclough said: “Oliver had great potential. He was a big 6ft 2ins prospect – a real gentle giant apart from when he was on the pitch.

“He was a great kid and was on his way to becoming a professional. Everyone at the club is devastated.”

Fairclough and the club's directors learnt of the death just before kick off against Morecambe at Underhill, on Saturday.
