A student from Battersea has been jailed for nine months after a routine stop by officers at a south London railway station linked him with drug crime.

Minh Phan, 18, from Culvert Road, was found guilty of possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was jailed last week at Snaresbrook Crown Court for nine months.

British Transport Police Detective Constable Michael Stephenson said Phan was stopped during a revenue operation at Battersea Park railway station on November 8 last year.

He added: "Phan saw police and revenue inspectors at the station and was seen running from the station. He was stopped by police and found to have four ounces of cannabis and a mobile phone.

"The phone was found to have been stolen from a South African tourist in St James’s Park in August 2007 and when police did a search of his house uncovered £2,500 worth of cannabis hidden in a wardrobe.

"They also uncovered photos from a mobile phone which contained pictures of cannabis plants, drugs being packaged, bank notes lined out along with jewellery and an imitation firearm.

"Police also seized a shopping list of items for equipment to cultivate cannabis."

D Con Stephenson said he was pleased that a jail term had been imposed.

"It's good for the general public to see that a routine revenue operation resulted in police uncovering and putting a stop to a local drug dealer."
